DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT MINISTIRES

Purpose:

Seek to lead the Youth (Grades 6-12) and Young Adult (College/Career) Ministries of First Baptist Church in efforts to help them make decisions for Jesus Christ and to grow in their walk as His followers in partnership with their families, community partners, and members of FBC.

Partner with the Senior Pastor in praying, planning, and caring for the community of faith known as First Baptist Church.


Qualifications:

  1. Has accepted Christ as Lord and exemplifies a mature Christian walk and a desire for continued growth.
  2. Has training and/or experience in ministry to youth and young adults. Has an awareness and understanding of teaching methods, literature, resources, and group dynamics. A Bachelor’s degree or a willingness to pursue one is preferable.
  3. Demonstrates a “heart” for people and a desire to be a servant leader.
  4. A willingness to serve as a team player with staff, related church boards, ministry teams, community partners, and parents.
  5. Initiates tasks without direct supervision; Is a self-starter.
  6. Willing to become a member of First Baptist Church and is theologically and philosophically compatible with First Baptist Church, the pastoral leadership, and American Baptist Churches, USA.

Responsibilities:

    1. Oversee all elements of the church’s youth ministry, The Attic Student Ministry.
    2. Develop and lead a ministry team or teams focused on reaching youth and young adults. These teams should include mature adults as well as youth and young adult leaders.
    3. Organize and lead the weekly youth ministry program on Sunday evenings.
    4. Develop and lead a ministry designed to disciple and engage young adults.
    5. Construct and manage an annual budget for assigned areas of ministry.
    6. Plan, prepare, and run various fellowship and outreach events for youth and young adults throughout the year such as mission trips, camps, retreats, etc.
    7. Work to create avenues for youth and young adults to integrate into the life of the broader church body.
    8. Work with the C.E. Board to serve the families of First Baptist Church and the surrounding community.
    9. Work in partnership with the Senior Pastor and Minister of Children and Families to foster opportunities for intergenerational connection and ministry.
    10. The Minister of Youth and Young adults will function as a member of the pastoral staff and will be fully involved in the life of First Baptist Church. He or she will report to the Senior Pastor and will partner in praying for, evaluating, leading, and caring for First Baptist Church and the surrounding community.

Weekly Hours: The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministires is a full-time position. Weekly office hours will be set in agreement with the Senior Pastor. Engagement with local schools and attendance at related events will count as working hours.

Salary and Benefits: The combined salary and housing pay will be set according to education and experience. The package includes insurance off-set, continued education allowance, and ministry related expenses. Should the employee choose, they may contribute to a self-funded retirement plan through the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board. Four weeks of vacation time will be provided. Additional time off for continued education and/or mission must be coordinated with the Senior Pastor.
